About Me

My name is Kieran Bartlett and I am a NESCOL student currently studying Media and Communications in my second year. I have lived in Stonehaven my whole life but am now thinking of moving to Aberdeen once i get into Robert Gordons University. I have always liked the though of having a career in journalism or media of some type. In school I chose subjects such as Photography, Business and English which would feed into the course I do now.

The Truth Behind AFCON (African Cup Of Nations)

The African Cup Of Nations has come under lots of scrutiny over the past few years for many reasons. They are usually justified as to the footballing culture it's seen as a laughing stock. If you are unaware of what AFCON actually is, this is a breif rundown (of this year's tournaments setup). It's a football knockout based competition where African teams take each other on in groups of four. This year there were 24 teams who took part. AFCON made the decision after 2010 to hold the competition every odd year to not clash with the world cup. The top two in the group progress straight to the knockouts, third place takes on other third place teams to see who gets into the knockouts and then last place gets eliminated. Gig Review - Little Simz

Little Simz has come a long way from being an opener act for Schoolboy Q on his tour many years ago. She has slowly worked her way up the ladder from her first release in 2010 to her most recent tour for her critically acclaimed album No Thank You. The album in question received a nomination for the British Album Of The Year, a Libera Award for best hip-hop album, a Mercury Prize  and finally a Best Album at the MOBO Awards. This tour took place in a sold out O2 Arena in Glasgow on the 7th November 2023. The opening acts were perfectly chosen giving the crowd a little teaser for what the vibe of the concert would turn out to be. The first act was Hak Baker who gave a interesting performance with his unique rapping/singing style. Best known for his songs that appear on FIFA the crowd was intrigued and exited for more. Sensationalist Media - What's The Big Deal?

Sensationalist media is a style of journalism or media coverage that exaggerates dramatic content to attract attention in hopes of increasing audience engagement. The primary goal of sensationalist media is to provoke strong reactions through the use of shocking headlines, graphic images, or sensational language. This often means the media tends to prioritise entertainment value over accuracy and factual reporting. Sensationalist media focuses on the sensational aspects of a story, such as scandal, conflict, violence, or  gossip, rather than providing a balanced representation of events.  Although criticised heavily, sensationalist media does serve some advantageous aspects to whoever uses it.
